Kindergarten

Gavin's homework assignment last night was to write a letter to his teacher telling her his favorite part of kindergarten this year.

Gavin's letter?

"My favorite part of kindergarten this year was lunch and play time"

I guess that would be about right for a kid!!

Weekend Roundup

1 Week later and we are done painting the house. Friday night Ken finished the trimwork that needed to be done and I painted the shutters. We went with a light gray for the house and a brick red for the shutters and our front door. I'll post pictures when it is all done ( still have to do the door ).

Saturday was our first Saturday in about 10 weeks or so that we had absolutely nothing planned. Since basketball season is over no more waking early to get Gavin to the courts by 8am. So, did I get to sleep in? Of course not. Katelyn decided to give me a couple shout outs over the baby monitor around 530am. I ignored her of course. 6 am came and there she was again. This time I got up, changed her diaper, and snuggled with her on the couch for about 10 minutes. I put her back in her crib where she slept until about 730.

We spent the day doing a whole lot of nothing. Cleaned up Gavin's room which was a disaster. Played tea party with Katelyn for a while. She kept pouring me cups of tea from her tea pot. And you HAVE to drink them or she will shove the cup to your mouth. Same goes with the pretend food. You better eat it or risk a fork shoved your way!!

We all finally got dressed around 4pm! What a lazy day. Pizza for dinner and then Alexis came over to play with Gavin and Katelyn. Oh yeah, and this is how I found them after a very long time of being quiet:

Nice.

Sunday morning we went to church with my inlaws while Ken headed off to work for a couple of hours. After church we went to my inlaws for lunch. Then the bad news came. Ken called to say that he had broken down about an hour and a half away. In MY car no less. He said the water pump broke.

So, off my father in law went to go rescue him. Meanwhile I went back home with the kids. And, I got a baby sitter lined up for Katelyn and I took Gavin to see the new Indiana Jones movie.

Wow, Harrison Ford has still got it. I loved the movie, Gavin loved the movie, and now I have a crush on Harrison Ford.

As for Memorial Day, the only plans we have are to spend some time outside with the sprinkler. Fun! Then we are eating at my dad's for dinner!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and a great Memorial Day!!

I Know Alot!!

As we were doing homework the other night Gavin was getting a little restless. He really wanted to be done and was trying to go as fast as possible. This made his handwriting look sloppy.

So I told him to slow down and write the words nicely like a first grader would do. That got his attention since he is looking forward to being in first grade next year. So, he slowed down and wrote out all his spelling words very neatly. I even told him one of the words looks like a second grader could have written it.

Wow! Was he impressed with himself! Then he says so very cutely: Mom, do you know there is such thing as ninth grade?

Yes Gavin, I did know that.

Now he is impressed that I know that. And then ever so seriously he asks me: Do you think there is a tenth grade?

And when I said yes, it just blew his mind that school could go up that far.

I am glad I can still amaze him with my knowledge!!

Weekend Roundup

Since we have decided to sell our house most of this weekend was spent getting it ready to be listed. Friday after dinner Ken, Gavin, and Danyelle got the outside ready to be painted. They covered all the windows and put the blue tape around everything else.

Saturday morning Gavin had his awards ceremony for this basketball season. He got a great medal with his name engraved on it and his team name. After the ceremony was his last game. Again Gavin and the whole team played great. Unfortunatly, they lost. Oh well, they had a good season. Gavin is already looking forward to what sport he wants to try out next.

Katelyn was a tired cranky girl all day Saturday! I even made her take two naps, compared to the one nap she usually takes. She whined and screamed about everything. Maybe the terrible two's are coming a little early!

Later Saturday evening my mom picked up Gavin to go out for cheesecake. Yummy!

Sunday was a great day. Gavin and I went to Adventure Island ( a water park ) for some fun in the sun. We went with my inlaws, my brother in law and his two kids. The last time I was there was 2 years ago when I was pregnant with Katelyn. And since last year Katelyn was still a baby, I stayed home while Ken and Gavin went. We did the Rambling Bayou twice. I used a tube to float thru while Gavin just wore a life jacket and floated all the way. We also spent about a half hour in the wave pool. I put aside my fear of water and swam into the deep end with Gavin so he could enjoy those monstrous crazy waves- again Gavin used the life jacket. We also spent some time in the kids splash zone. We rode water flumes named Key West Rapids and Calyspso Coaster. We also did a picnic lunch at the park.

And where was Katelyn? Aunt Gina offered to watch her for the day so I could go to the park and enjoy being with just Gavin. Thanks Gina!!

Meanwhile, Ken and Danyelle stayed home to work on painting the house. They got the whole house done except for the trim.

And that's all folks! Hope everyone has a great week!

Wordless Wednesday - Glasses

Tuesday, May 13, 2008

20/20? Not So Much.

About 3 months ago Gavin brought home a form from the school nurse stating that he had not passed the school eye exam. So I did what any other good mom would do. I ignored the letter. Well, not totally. I did call our insurance company to see where I could take him to get his eyes tested. And I sat on hold for a very long time. So I hung up. And never called back!

Then 2 weeks ago the school nurse sent home another letter reminding me about his eyes. So this time I made an appointment for the eye doctor. Gavin failed the eye exam with flying colors. I have very bad eyes and wear contacts. So I guess Gavin got that from me. We picked out glasses 2 weeks ago and will be picking them up today.

I did explain to Gavin that he had to wear the glasses all the time. He seemed ok with it. In fact he has been asking me nonstop for the past 2 weeks when his glasses were getting here. So we will see what happens when we actually get them.

Weekend Roundup

Gavin and Katelyn got some Daddy time Friday night. After our dinner of take-out Chinese food, I headed up to the church where it was scrapbooking night.. I had a great time and got a lot done! Meanwhile at home, Ken got to spend the night with the kids. Before I left I put out the kids jammies and reminded Ken to change Katelyn's diaper. I have a fear that he will forget to do that!! When I got home everyone was in bed. I went in to peak at Katelyn in her crib and she was sleeping soundly. Gavin was asleep with Ken in my bed with the TV still on. I guess they had a good night!

Saturday morning we headed out to Gavin's basketball game. How many times can say how great he plays? He is so focused on the game and does a great job of trying his best. They had a tie game 4 to 4. This Saturday coming up is his awards ceremony and then the last game of the season.

Saturday evening Ken and I dropped the kids off at my in laws so we could attend an employee appreciation dinner for Ken. We were gone a couple of hours. When we went back to pick them up Katelyn was VERY mad at me for leaving her. When I walked in she very slowly walked towards me. She had her head down, her sad puppy dog eyes, and her bottom lip sticking out. Like a little orphan. So of course I gobbled her up in my arms and gave a thousand kisses to her!!

And of course Sunday was Mother's Day. We started the day by going out to breakfast with my mom and all my siblings. Katelyn is almost 2 now, so going to restaurants with her makes me a little crazy. She is constantly trying to climb out of the high chair and pushes everything within her reach off the table. Such fun!!

In the afternoon we had a wonderful lunch at my in laws house. From there we headed home so Mommy could take a nap. That's really all I wanted, some uninterrupted sleep!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!!

A Mother's Love

No Gift on Earth Is Greater

No Treasure Held Above

The Joy That Comes From Knowing

A Mother's Endless Love

In Spite of How its Tested

It Grows From Year to Year

Providing Strength and Comfort

It Always Draws us Near

It Warms and it Protects Us

And Guides us From Afar

Shedding Light upon us

Like a Bright and Shining Star

And When all Things Are Measured

No One Shall Rise Above

Or be Compared in Value

To a Mother's Endless Love

Happy Mother's Day ! !

This is my beautiful Mother's Day gift from Gavin. He made it at school this week. Around the flower pot he wrote "I love you" and his name. Homemade gifts are the BEST EVER!!

Flashback Friday

I cant believe the school year is almost over! It went by so fast. Gavin started Kindergarten this year. He has grown so much since the first day of school. I am amazed by how smart he is and how independent he has become- as much as a 5 year old can be!

This picture is of Gavin on his first day of pre-school. He had just turned 2 and was going to school 2 days a week for 3 hours each. He was so excited to have his Wiggles backpack.

And this is a picture of Gavin on his first day of kindergarten.

Now he is excited about his Spiderman backpack. So many changes from my little boy into my big boy. I remember I was a little sad when he stopped watching the toddler shows like the Wiggles or Max and Ruby, and started watching Power Rangers and Spiderman. But I know that he has to grow up. Though it does tear me up a little to compare pictures like this. Before you know it I will be taking his picture on his first day of middle school!?!? Yikes!

Chalk and Bubbles

I watched my nephew Ryan for the day yesterday. He is 3. Katelyn has such a great time when he is around, someone a little closer to her age than Gavin. So, we spent the morning outside before it got too hot.

We turned on the bubble machine and Ryan and Katelyn ran around forever chasing the bubbles.

Then they just ran around chasing each other and butterflies. And of course got into the sidewalk chalk. Ryan drew all his shapes and wrote out his name. Katelyn scribbled and wrote over everything poor Ryan drew!

Finally it was time to come in. This does not sit well with Katelyn whenever we are outside and its time to come in. I usually chase her around the yard and drag her into the house. This is what she looked like when we got in:

She laid there for about 5 minutes crying her little heart out. When she finally realized she was not going back out, she got up and played tea party with Ryan.

And that was our day!! :)

Weekend Recap

Let's see, what did we do Friday? After Ken picked up Danyelle we had a quick bite to eat, and then it was time to go outside. Gavin spend most of the time practicing basketball and Katelyn turned on our bubble machine and chased them around for a while.

Saturday morning we headed to Gavin's basketball game. Only 2 more left in the season now. Gavin played a real good game. I love to see how he is improving each week. He got fouled by another player and got a free throw -- which he made! Again my mommy pride was overwhelming! My sister is in town from Alaska so Gavin was excited Aunt Gina got to see him play.

Saturday afternoon Ken took Gavin to a friend of ours house for a Kentucky Derby party. They had a kiddie pool set up and 2 slip and slides. Gavin was in heaven. Ken said he had a great time with all the other kids who were there and barely stopped playing long enough to eat. They finally arrived home at 10 30!!

While the boys were at their barbecue, Danyelle and I went out with my MIL for our annual pre Mothers Day Lunch. Any excuse to dress up and go out to lunch is fine by me!! We had a great time and had some great food.

Sunday afternoon we headed to my MIL's for Sunday lunch. The cousins were all there, so of course my kids had a great time playing around with them. After lunch it was back to the house for some yard work. Gavin and Ken gutted our front planter and re planted some beautiful plants.

So, that's about it! Have a great week everyone~~
