Flashback Friday

Since Thanksgiving is less than 1 week away ( really?WOW!) , I thought I would flashback to Thanksgiving 7 years ago.

7 years ago at the end of October I found out I was pregnant with Gavin. It was such an exciting time. Ken and I had been trying for a couple of months and we were so happy to find out our baby was on its way. We shared the news with only both of our parents when we first found out.

By the time Thanksgiving rolled around I was about 6 weeks pregnant. I remember walking into my mother in laws house and being overwhelmed by all the food smells. Smells I normally love. Smells that when you are 6 weeks pregnant make you want to vomit. I suffered thru Thanksgiving lunch moving the food around on my plate and sipping Sprite. And trying not to gag watching everyone eat.

I noticed across the table Ken's cousin David's girlfriend ( got that? ) was drinking sprite too and not eating much. I remember thinking it was weird that someone else was drinking Sprite- cause in my mind no one drinks Sprite unless they are sick or pregnant.

After lunch my MIL asked me if I wanted to share the news that day since the whole family was together. I said OK.

We had Danyelle make the big announcement that she was getting a little brother or sister. It was so fun to share.

It was at that time that cousin David's girlfriend ( soon to be wife ) stood up and said she was pregnant too!

We were both 6 weeks along and due in July. Her son Brandon was born July 1st and Gavin was born July 10th. Isn't that funny?

By the time we got to my grandmother's house later on for more turkey- I was exhausted. Those first couple of months of pregnancy really took their toll on me. I remember walking into my grandmothers house and heading straight to the couch and passing out for hours.

Every Thanksgiving since then makes me remember that Thanksgiving 7 years ago. Even those first smells of dinner cooking make me feel a little queasy still. And I don't eat the turkey anymore either.

Flashback Friday - June 1981

In June 1981 I turned 7 years old. For my birthday party that year my mom took me and my friends to Showbiz Pizza. Showbiz had just come out and it was a BIG DEAL. Everyone wanted to go. So I knew that having my birthday party there was a HUGE deal. Especially for my family. We usually didn't do things like that for birthday parties. Parties were always at my house in the backyard with friends.

So boy. Was I excited to go. Here's the first picture my mom got of me at the beginning of my magical party:

That's me front and center. Did you notice I am not smiling at my great magical birthday? What could have happened? Oh, I'll tell ya. That nasty look on my face was because my mom wanted to take a picture of me. Oh my- the horror. I can actually remember being soooo mad at her for taking pictures. I was so embarrassed. But my friends weren't. Look at their happy smiling faces in the background. And yep, Jen E., that's you at the very end!

Next, my mom made me get up and pose with one of the characters!! Notice the mean face again and crosses arms. But a really cute sundress!

And again, my poor mom tried to get another picture of the birthday girl. This time one of my friends put balloons in front of my face - probably to hide the nastiness again.
I did end up having a wonderful time though. After my click happy mom stopped taking pictures I probably loosened up. I am really not one who likes being the center of attention. To this day I still don't like people singing Happy Birthday to me. That means everyone is looking at me.

I'll end this post with one last picture from that party. I am in the yellow sundress on the left. And I am actually smiling and having a good time. Sorry mom for many ruined pictures!

Flashback Friday ~ Me ~

Who is that adorable sweet little baby? I know you all are wondering. Why, it's me! Yep, those are my baby pictures and I thought for today's Flashback Friday I would post about little ole me! Why? It's my Birthday! Yippee! Today I turn 34 years old.

I love looking back at old photos of myself. I love to see how much I've changed, the clothes I wore, and all the different hairstyles I had. And now since I have kids I love looking at my pictures to see if I see Gavin or Katelyn in them.
This next picture is of me in pre-school. I love the shirt I am wearing and my hair- red like Katelyn's!!

Next one up is from kindergarten. I love looking at this picture now, but back in the day, I hated it. I did NOT want my mom to put those pink foamy curlers in my hair the night before picture day but she did anyway. I remember crying the whole way to school because I hated my hair. And check out that cool 70's outfit!

This one is from 2nd or 3rd grade- I think. I am missing my two front teeth. And I love how the blond is coming out in my hair!

My next picture is when my looks started to go. My 6th grade picture. What is going on with my hair. Oh, how I hated it. I think it was supposed to be feathered. Who knows.

For the next couple of years I went through an awkward faze. Oh boy. I had my share of bad perms, bad clothes, and even glasses. I will not be sharing those pictures now!

The next one is my senior photo. I loved my hair then! It was 1992 so of course my hair was BIG.

It seems like time has flown since I graduated. I went to college, got married, and had my 2 beautiful babies. Today, I am 34 years old. Wow. I feel 34 years Young!!!

Flashback Friday

I cant believe the school year is almost over! It went by so fast. Gavin started Kindergarten this year. He has grown so much since the first day of school. I am amazed by how smart he is and how independent he has become- as much as a 5 year old can be!

This picture is of Gavin on his first day of pre-school. He had just turned 2 and was going to school 2 days a week for 3 hours each. He was so excited to have his Wiggles backpack.

And this is a picture of Gavin on his first day of kindergarten.

Now he is excited about his Spiderman backpack. So many changes from my little boy into my big boy. I remember I was a little sad when he stopped watching the toddler shows like the Wiggles or Max and Ruby, and started watching Power Rangers and Spiderman. But I know that he has to grow up. Though it does tear me up a little to compare pictures like this. Before you know it I will be taking his picture on his first day of middle school!?!? Yikes!
