Basketball Recap

Gavin had another basketball game this past Saturday. It was by far the best one yet. Why? Well because Gavin scored his very first basket during a game. Way to go Gavin!

He scored the first basket of the game in the first quarter. It was only about 3 minutes into the game and Gavin had the ball. He was surrounded by the other team and was looking for one of his own teammates to pass to. No one was unguarded. When I saw him raise the ball into the air to take a shot I thought " Oh, no, Gavin, your way too far away from the basket!"

But, he made it! Everyone cheered ! It took all of my self control not to run out into the middle of the court and hoist him up onto my shoulders. I was so proud!!

Potty Words

The other day when I was changing Katelyn's diaper in the living room, I realized it was poop only after I had wrestled her to the ground and opened it up. Great, what do I do now? I had the extra diaper in hand but had not grabbed the wipes from her bedroom. I couldn't fasten her back up to go get the wipes because it would probably take another 15 minutes to wrestle her back into diaper changing position.

So, I called for Gavin to get me the wipes. Which he does ever soooo slowly. The whole time I am struggling to keep Katelyn pinned to the ground with a dirty diaper. When slow as molasses Gavin finally drags his feet into the room he asks me why I need the wipes. Really Gavin? Why do you think?

Now I've got Katelyn screaming and wiggling all over and Gavin standing too far away from me for me to grab the wipes, and he won't give them to me.

Gavin: Why do you need wipes mommy?
Me: Because I am changing her diaper, GIVE ME THE WIPES!
Gavin: But, why do you need them?

Does he really want to hear me say it? So I answer him in the best way I know: Because she has shit all over the place, Now come on and GIVE ME THOSE WIPES!

Gavin's response? Mom, is shit the same as poop?
My word I almost died laughing.

Spring Break Recap ( Part 2 )

For our last day of Spring Break we decided to go to the zoo. Katelyn has never been to the zoo and Gavin hasn't been there since he was about 1. So of course he was so excited to go since he doesn't remember ever being there.

We started the day taking a walk along the "boardwalk". This brought us to many animals that are found in Florida. We saw the alligators and crocodiles ( of course ! ). We also got to see tons of pink flamingos, crane, turkeys, skunks, deer, and turtles. The highlight of this area was the interactive stingray tank. We got to pet and feed the stingrays. Gavin was very timid about touching them and of course Katelyn would have jumped right in the tank with them if I let her!!

From there we went to the aquatic center. We saw plenty of snakes, frogs, tons of fish and the Florida manatee.

And who knew there were so many different kinds of pigs?? We saw the bearded pig, the warty pig, and the wild boar. We saw the spotted leopard and the sloth bear , who was being true to his name and sleeping.

Next up was the bird aviary. I knew Katelyn would love this exhibit because she just loves birds. We bought some nectar and had birds swoop down and land on me. As they were drinking Katelyn kept saying "bir ee bir ee ". She also kept trying to pet the birds that were on me and tried to feed them herself. She loved it. Gavin ? Not so much. I think all the birds diving and landing on us scared him.

Next we headed to Primate World where we saw chimps, orangutans, and lemurs.

Safari Africa was next. First off, Ken and Gavin rode the skyride around the park. They got to see all the exhibits from the air. Katelyn and I took this time for a diaper change and snacks!! Once the skyride was over it was time to see more animals. We saw the zebras and elephants first. Then we saw the beautiful giraffes. Amazing how big they are. We even got to buy crackers and stand on a huge platform and feed the giraffe. Yep, feed the giraffe. I was so amazed by this. Gavin was a pro and fed the giraffe 2 crackers!

After looking at some hippos, cheetahs, and hyenas, Gavin took a ride on a camel. He was so happy that he got to sit in the first seat.

He also couldn't wait to tell his school friends that he rode a camel. We also spend quite a bit of time in the petting zoo. Gavin was in love with all the goats and llamas. After petting all of them he got out the brush and brushed some. After a while he settled with just one goat named Oreo and didn't leave her side until we left. Katelyn had a great time too. She liked to chase the goats around with her hands out and screeching because they would walk away from her. She finally got a brush out too and started brushing some. So funny to watch.

Our last stop of the day was to the horse stables. Since he already rode a camel, Gavin was ready for a horse ride.

Gavin and Katelyn both had such a great time. I cant wait to go back !

Spring Break Recap ( Part 1 )

Gavin went back to school today after being off for Spring Break last week. We were lucky enough to have beautiful weather all week long.

Last Tuesday after Ken got home from work we drove to the beach to check into our hotel. We got a great room that was facing the ocean and was right next to the pool and shuffleboard court. After unpacking we headed down to the beach. Gavin ran right into the water, while Katelyn had a hard time walking thru the sand. This was her first time at the beach and she didn't know quite what to make of it. She was very puzzled as to why it was so hard to walk. Once we made it to the water, Katelyn was again puzzled. She very timidly walked to the waters edge and let the waves hit her feet and then would run away.

Gavin meanwhile was having a great time running in and out of the ocean and trying to jump the waves when they came in.

After about 20 minutes of checking out the ocean, Katelyn finally ran right in. And didn't stop. And got knocked over by a wave. And got up laughing. That was the beginning of my workout. She would run in and get knocked over by the incoming wave and then get knocked over again by the water rushing back into the ocean. She wasn't scared at all and thought it was all very funny.

After about an hour or so we rinsed off in the beach shower and jumped into the hotel pool. After our swim it was back into our room for a quick dinner. Our room had a nice kitchen in it so we ate in for most of our meals. After dinner we headed back outside to watch the sunset. Gavin has been waiting for this for weeks. He could not wait to see the sunset. He was very amazed how the sun seemed to go down right into the ocean!!

The next day started with us in the pool for a couple of hours. After lunch we headed down to the beach again. Gavin and Katelyn had a great time playing with their sand toys and building sandcastles.

Katelyn found a little friend on the beach that she played with. They were really cute running back and forth into the water with each other and playing in the sand. Gavin collected alot of seashell to bring home. He said he want to paint them!

That night we enjoyed another beautiful sunset. Gavin also wanted to see the beach "at night", so I took him for a moonlit walk. I loved this little hotel so much. We all had such a great time !

I'm Sorry Katelyn !

Dear Katelyn,

I'm sorry that when you woke up crying and cranky this morning I didn't take it seriously.

I'm sorry that when I realized you had a little fever I thought maybe you were just getting your molars.

I'm sorry that when you wouldn't eat breakfast I still didn't realize you were sick.

I'm sorry that we made the 1/2 hour drive to Busch Gardens.

I'm sorry that you puked all over yourself in your car seat.

I'm very sorry that Mommy and Daddy argued in the parking lot of IHOP over who was getting you out of the car.

I'm sorry that it took so long to get you cleaned up because Mommy puked 3 times herself in the parking lot.

I'm sorry that you didn't feel good the whole 1/2 hour drive BACK home.

Katelyn, Mommy is paying attention now. We are back home where you have had a nice warm bath and I put jammies on you. We just got done snuggling in my bed until you fell asleep. Feel better my darling!
