Puppies, Movies, and Swimming...

That's how I would describe our weekend. Friday evening Ken worked late so I took the kids up to the pet store to get some new treats for Barkley. We started off at the hamster cage and we had fun trying to catch them. Then we moved onto all the sweet little puppies. It was dinnertime so they were all jumping around and barking in their cages. I let Gavin pick out which one we wanted to play with and he chose a cute little brown Boxer puppy. He was just sitting quietly in the cage watching all the people go by.

Once we were in the little room, the quiet little guy went WILD. Ran around in circles jumping up and biting us wherever he could. Katelyn quickly jumped up onto the bench while Gavin, Danyelle and I did a little dance around the room to get away from him. One of the employees threw in some chew toys and we held him off with those for a little while!! Even after all the little puppy nips I'm sure Gavin and Katelyn would love to go back and play with him again.

Saturday early evening we took the kids up to the theatre to see the new Shrek movie.

Let's see....that's 5 family members plus the cost of tickets = HOLY CRAP THAT WAS EXPENSIVE!!! Seriously, not only did we have to pay for admission, but since the movie was in 3D they tacked on another $3.50 to every ticket. GRrrrr. Other than that we had a great time. The movie wasn't too long and was full of laughs. I just love that damn donkey!

Sunday morning we tried out a new church here by our new house. Katelyn surprised me by saying she wanted to try out the Sunday school. I walked her in, sat her down, and said goodbye. When we picked her up she was laughing and told me she liked it there.

That afternoon we went to an anniversary party/BBQ/Pool party. Katelyn jumped right into the pool and stayed there for the rest of the day only getting out to eat a hotdog.

Gavin on the other hand spent some time playing with the remote control boat. Which at first scared the daylights out of Katelyn. She would scream and try to swim away every time the boat was coming anywhere in her direction.

He finally changed into his bathing suit and wasted no time trying out the slide.

And then after that it was off to clean the tiki bar.

Who knows why, but that's my Gavin, lol.

And that, was our weekend!

Weekend Recap

The weather is finally cooling off a little bit here in Florida. The past couple of days have been about 85/86% with just a little bit of humidity. We are going to Disney this coming weekend so I am crossing my fingers that the humidity stays down and the temperature doesn't shoot back up into the 90's!!



Since it was such a beautiful weekend we spend so much time outside. Saturday I took the the kids to the park. Gavin and Katelyn had a great time of course. That is until Gavin would go do something other that what Katelyn was doing. Then Katelyn would scream at the top of her lungs " GAVIN COME BACK!" She wanted him right by her every single second we where there!

Sunday's are national football day here in our house this time of year. So in between watching the games we went outside to play. Katelyn is obsessed with birds and lizards. She thinks she can catch the lizards too. So she spent quite a bit of time chasing them around our front yard and talking to the birds in the trees. We also had the bubble machine going and lots of sidewalk chalk to go around.

Weekend Roundup

Wow~ what a great holiday weekend we had!

Friday the 4th of July we had some friends and family over to our house. We all sat outside a couple of hours before the fireworks started. The kids had a blast playing together. They had tons of toys outside- scooters, bikes, power wheels, and lots of balls to throw around.

And I just love this picture of Gavin and his cousin Ryan:
Us adults had our chairs set up in the front yard. We dined on chips and salsa, a couple of different chips and dips , cookies, and a fruit platter.

When dusk came we started our pre-fireworks show of our own. We had fountains, sparklers, bottle rockets, and a couple more that I don't know the name of!! Everyone chipped in and brought over some fireworks so we had more than enough!

The boys did a great job of staying out of the adults way while the fireworks were being lit. They stood in a little line and held onto whatever firework they wanted lit next.

Katelyn was big enough this year to enjoy the fireworks. She was a little surprised when we first started lighting them off. Not quite sure what to make of it. It didn't take her too long to realize how fun they were. She loved watching her daddy light them up in the street and screeched with delight. Katelyn and her little friend Xavier stood next to each other and laughed and clapped while they watched.

Around 9:30 the huge firework show started. We can see them being lit off from the park by sitting in our driveway. Again the kids enjoyed the great show our park puts on. After the grand finale, it was back to amateur hour at our house. We had enough fireworks to light off to keep us busy until around 11pm!

Since we had such a late night on Friday, Saturday was a very lazy day. I got a little done around the house but that was about it! Gavin and Katelyn played all day with each other without very much bickering!

Sunday we headed over to my mil's for lunch. We spent pretty much most of the day over there. Gavin, Ryan, and Katelyn again had a great time playing together. Even though there was a little bit of arguing between Ryan and Gavin they still had a great time! Ken's cousin John was also there today to provide everyone with a haircut too! Ken and Gavin both got their hair trimmed up and they look really good. And..... da da da da da....... Katelyn got her first big girl hair cut too! That post will come later in the week.

Weekend Roundup

Busy, Busy, Busy. That was our weekend!


Friday night my soon to be niece Alexis spent the night. She is the same age as Gavin so they have a blast together. They spent the night playing the Wii. Boxing seemed to be the favorite of the night. Of course with any sleepover bed time came and went with no one laying down. Not even Katelyn. She was mad as a hatter when I put her in her crib. Screamed and hollered for about 20 minutes before she fell asleep. Gavin, Danyelle, and Alexis finally laid down around 1130.


Saturday morning after Alexis went home, we headed out to cousin Brandon's 6th birthday party. They had it at the clubhouse where they live so we could use the pool. The kids had a great time. Gavin learned from some of the older kids how to do a cannon ball into the pool. WOW. He was so proud of himself! Katelyn ran back and forth between the kiddie pool and the adult pool. Of course my no fear daughter thinks she can just walk right into the big pool-- as in walk off the side into the pool. After swimming it was time for cake and presents. But the best part of the party was probably the spongebob pinata. The look on Katelyn's face was priceless when all the candy a started falling out. It took her all of 2 seconds before she caught onto what was going on and started grabbing some candy for herself.


It was early bedtime that night! Gavin and Katelyn were so tired after all that swimming.



Sunday was another big day! Gavin, Katelyn, and I met some friends of mine up at a local hands on childrens museum. We were there to celebrate my friends sons 2 year birthday. I have never been to this museum before and now I cannot wait to go back. The kids had a great time. There was so much to do for all age groups.

Lets see, there was also a pretend vet shop that had a pretend xray machine, a doctors office, a pretend cafeteria, a library, a school room, a fire station that even had the fire pole, and so much more. There was one area we didn't even get too! Our time there was over way too soon. Really, I cannot wait to go back!

Sunday evening we had my brother's family over for pizza. Again, the Wii was on!

Here's my weekend roundup- better late than never, right? Ha ha.

Friday night some of my family came over to celebrate my birthday with me. My sister bought me a yummy cookie cake. Sooo good, Thanks Gina!!

Later that evening Gavin was playing around with his slightly loose tooth wondering when it would come out. I felt it to see how wiggly it was and told him sometime next week it should fall out- it wasn't that loose to me. Gavin told me he thought it would come out on Saturday. I said I didn't think so!

5 minutes later he walks back into the room and says "Here's my tooth mom" WHAT?!?!?

He pulled that sucker out himself. And there was blood. Lots of it too! He was really excited and ran to get his tooth fairy pillow.

Of course the tooth fairy came Friday night and Gavin was Very happy Saturday morning.

Saturday evening we dropped both kids off at my mil's to spend the night. Ken and I headed off to my birthday dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. One word : Yummmmmyyyyy. I love that place. We went with Katie and a friend of hers. Great food, great friends, and much laughter made the night wonderful.

Sunday morning Ken and I picked up the kids and made an hour and a half drive to see my brother's new house. He just moved in Wednesday and I couldn't wait to see the place. We barbequed , played horseshoes, and had the slip n slide out for the kids.

Katelyn spent the time walking up and down the slip n slide and getting in the other kids way. Very funny to me actually. We had a great time there and cant wait to go visit again.

Weekend Round Up

Yes, we had a busy Father's Day weekend.

Friday night was scrap booking night up at the church again. Katie and I headed up there after dinner at my house of pizza. Once again I had a great time with the girls up there and got a lot done.

Meanwhile at home Gavin was excited because Katie's son Austin was over and was spending the night. Ken really had a full house with Gavin, Katelyn, Danyelle, and Austin. Everyone but Danyelle was sleeping when I got home so I guess all went well.

Saturday night was another Ken and the kids night. Ken took Gavin and Danyelle to the movies to see Incredible Hulk. I stayed home with Katelyn.

All 3 of them said the movie was excellent. Gavin immediately got out all of his Hulk action figures when he got home and started playing. I guess acting out the movie. And a little while later he changed into his Hulk jammies.

Father's Day morning we let Ken sleep in of course. Then we headed over the my mil's for lunch.

After lunch we went back home and played the wii. In the evening we went out to dinner with my dad, sister, and brother. We went to a local sushi place and had a great time.

Fun, busy weekend for us! Have a wonderful week everyone.

Weekend Roundup

I was so busy last week! Doing what? Since my car was still in the shop it might seem like I wouldnt be busy. But.... I was babysitting. In addition to Ethan ( who I have m-f normally ) I watched a friends son for her. Her babysitter cancelled at the last minute and I stepped in. All week. Her little guy is almost 2 years old. Katelyn is almost 2 years old and Ethan is 10 months old. Yikes! I survived the week :)

But of course by the time Saturday came I was dead on my feet!

Saturday morning we headed up to Wallll Mart to buy a pool for the backyard. Nothing fancy, just something so the kids could cool off. Got home, set it up, and Gavin and Katelyn played in it for hours!

Danyelle also got a special treat from my inlaws. They took her out to lunch and to a movie Saturday afternoon to congratulate her on completing 8th grade. Off to high school next year- yikes!!

Early to bed for all of us Saturday night and then off to my MIL's for Sunday lunch. Danyelle helped cook the asparagus- which she is getting pretty good at.
And grocery shopping later sunday evening just about completed our weekend.

Weekend Roundup

1 Week later and we are done painting the house. Friday night Ken finished the trimwork that needed to be done and I painted the shutters. We went with a light gray for the house and a brick red for the shutters and our front door. I'll post pictures when it is all done ( still have to do the door ).


Saturday was our first Saturday in about 10 weeks or so that we had absolutely nothing planned. Since basketball season is over no more waking early to get Gavin to the courts by 8am. So, did I get to sleep in? Of course not. Katelyn decided to give me a couple shout outs over the baby monitor around 530am. I ignored her of course. 6 am came and there she was again. This time I got up, changed her diaper, and snuggled with her on the couch for about 10 minutes. I put her back in her crib where she slept until about 730.


We spent the day doing a whole lot of nothing. Cleaned up Gavin's room which was a disaster. Played tea party with Katelyn for a while. She kept pouring me cups of tea from her tea pot. And you HAVE to drink them or she will shove the cup to your mouth. Same goes with the pretend food. You better eat it or risk a fork shoved your way!!


We all finally got dressed around 4pm! What a lazy day. Pizza for dinner and then Alexis came over to play with Gavin and Katelyn. Oh yeah, and this is how I found them after a very long time of being quiet:

Sunday morning we went to church with my inlaws while Ken headed off to work for a couple of hours. After church we went to my inlaws for lunch. Then the bad news came. Ken called to say that he had broken down about an hour and a half away. In MY car no less. He said the water pump broke.

So, off my father in law went to go rescue him. Meanwhile I went back home with the kids. And, I got a baby sitter lined up for Katelyn and I took Gavin to see the new Indiana Jones movie.

Wow, Harrison Ford has still got it. I loved the movie, Gavin loved the movie, and now I have a crush on Harrison Ford.

As for Memorial Day, the only plans we have are to spend some time outside with the sprinkler. Fun! Then we are eating at my dad's for dinner!

Weekend Roundup

Since we have decided to sell our house most of this weekend was spent getting it ready to be listed. Friday after dinner Ken, Gavin, and Danyelle got the outside ready to be painted. They covered all the windows and put the blue tape around everything else.

Saturday morning Gavin had his awards ceremony for this basketball season. He got a great medal with his name engraved on it and his team name. After the ceremony was his last game. Again Gavin and the whole team played great. Unfortunatly, they lost. Oh well, they had a good season. Gavin is already looking forward to what sport he wants to try out next.

Katelyn was a tired cranky girl all day Saturday! I even made her take two naps, compared to the one nap she usually takes. She whined and screamed about everything. Maybe the terrible two's are coming a little early!

Later Saturday evening my mom picked up Gavin to go out for cheesecake. Yummy!

Sunday was a great day. Gavin and I went to Adventure Island ( a water park ) for some fun in the sun. We went with my inlaws, my brother in law and his two kids. The last time I was there was 2 years ago when I was pregnant with Katelyn. And since last year Katelyn was still a baby, I stayed home while Ken and Gavin went. We did the Rambling Bayou twice. I used a tube to float thru while Gavin just wore a life jacket and floated all the way. We also spent about a half hour in the wave pool. I put aside my fear of water and swam into the deep end with Gavin so he could enjoy those monstrous crazy waves- again Gavin used the life jacket. We also spent some time in the kids splash zone. We rode water flumes named Key West Rapids and Calyspso Coaster. We also did a picnic lunch at the park.

And where was Katelyn? Aunt Gina offered to watch her for the day so I could go to the park and enjoy being with just Gavin. Thanks Gina!!

Meanwhile, Ken and Danyelle stayed home to work on painting the house. They got the whole house done except for the trim.

Weekend Recap

Let's see, what did we do Friday? After Ken picked up Danyelle we had a quick bite to eat, and then it was time to go outside. Gavin spend most of the time practicing basketball and Katelyn turned on our bubble machine and chased them around for a while.

Saturday morning we headed to Gavin's basketball game. Only 2 more left in the season now. Gavin played a real good game. I love to see how he is improving each week. He got fouled by another player and got a free throw -- which he made! Again my mommy pride was overwhelming! My sister is in town from Alaska so Gavin was excited Aunt Gina got to see him play.

Saturday afternoon Ken took Gavin to a friend of ours house for a Kentucky Derby party. They had a kiddie pool set up and 2 slip and slides. Gavin was in heaven. Ken said he had a great time with all the other kids who were there and barely stopped playing long enough to eat. They finally arrived home at 10 30!!

While the boys were at their barbecue, Danyelle and I went out with my MIL for our annual pre Mothers Day Lunch. Any excuse to dress up and go out to lunch is fine by me!! We had a great time and had some great food.

Sunday afternoon we headed to my MIL's for Sunday lunch. The cousins were all there, so of course my kids had a great time playing around with them. After lunch it was back to the house for some yard work. Gavin and Ken gutted our front planter and re planted some beautiful plants.

Weekend Recap

Since Christmas the Wii has become the most popular thing in our house. So after Ken picked up Danyelle on Friday it was no surprise that the Wii was on all night. Gavin, Ken, and Danyelle spent the night playing Mario Galaxy and Mortal Combat. After Ken went to bed, Gavin and Danyelle continued to play. Gavin Loves the weekends that Danyelle is here. He gets to "camp out" in her room with her Friday and Saturday night. They make up their comfy bed on her bedroom floor - complete with Spongebob and Patrick stuffed animals.

Saturday afternoon I finally had Katelyn's pictures taken. I took Gavin and Danyelle with me to help. The last time Katelyn had her pictures done she would not smile at all. We were there for about and hour before she finally gave us a smile. This time was different. All smiles and giggles for the photographer. They should be ready in about 3 weeks. Yea!!

Sunday morning we headed off to church. Katelyn once again cried when we dropped her off at the nursery. After we dropped Gavin off in his Sunday school class we walked back by the nursery where poor Katelyn was still whimpering. Oh, how that makes my heart break!!
After our service we encountered a very different Katelyn in the nursery. She was happily playing and walking around. She smiled and laughed when I called her name to let her know we were back. She even ran in the opposite direction to keep playing!!

We had a wonderful Sunday lunch at my in laws. Once again the kids had a great time together.

Week and Weekend Recap

Boy, I have got alot to catch up on!
This past Monday Gavin had his first night Tball game. All the kids were excited to play at night with the big lights on the field. Gavin did excellent and scored 3 runs. He played short stop, third base, and first base. While he was playing third base, the ball came right to him and with the coach's help, promptly stepped on third base to get an out! Yeah!

Wednesday night we were invited to a "pizza party" at Gavin's friend Jimmy's house. About 10 or so kids were there. They kids were about halfway done with their pizza when the doorbell rang. And lo and behold it was SANTA!! Yippee! Santa and Mrs. Claus popped in to check on the kids and make sure they were being good before Christmas. Gavin was soo surprised that Santa was actually there. The kids all sat around Santa while he called each one of them up. When it was Gavin's turn they talked about karate, Tball, and Gavin being in kindergarten. Santa really did his homework. He even gave Gavin a pre Christmas present and some food for the reindeer for Christmas Eve. Katelyn did not grace Santa with her presence on his lap. She just walked around him checking him out. And would run from him if he dared speak to her. Maybe next year!

And another yippee, when we got home from seeing Santa Aunt Gina and her fiancee Paul had arrived from Alaska. They are here for 2 weeks and Gavin is ecstatic to see his aunt. And as I am writing this Katelyn has warmed up to both Gina and Paul!

Friday night was my turn at hosting a Christmas dinner. We celebrated early this year with my mom since Gina and Paul will be celebrating Christmas day with his family. Since I didn't have the timing right on the dishes I was cooking we opened presents first. The kids had such a great time! Katelyn needed help opening hers and loved the dolls and stroller set grandma gave her. She hasn't stopped playing with it since! She pushes her babies back and forth and back and forth. Sometimes they are even sitting upside down in the stroller and sometimes the babies are barely hanging in there. Is that how she feels when I am pushing her in her stroller. Dear lord!

Saturday Danyelle went to work with Ken to pass out the mountains of Christmas cookie tins that were put together last weekend. Daddy and daughter have been doing this together for a couple of years now and Ken really enjoys that she goes with him. She does a great job even though she has to get up long before the sun comes up!

Saturday night was more presents and celebrating at Grandpa's house. By now Katelyn had the hang of tearing open the presents. She actually started ripping into them before it was time! Gavin got a way cool RC car. Of course after it was charged up and ready to go, who do you think was playing with it??? That's right, not Gavin but Daddy. I think he just got a kick out of chasing my brother's dog with the car and making her crazy!

Well, that just about wraps it up. Gavin knows that tomorrow is Christmas Eve and he just cannot wait for it. We are going to our Christmas Eve service at church were Gavin is singing again. Hopefully the weather cools off enough so we can have a fire in our fire pit tomorrow night before bed.

Weekend Recap

Since we live in Florida Gavin does not understand why it does not snow here for Christmas. All the holiday shows he has watched have snow in them and the Christmas books we have been reading have snow in them. He really has been holding out hope that it will get cold enough to snow this year. So, this past Friday night Ken and I surprised the kids and took them up to the rec center where they were having a WinderWonderland. Gingerbread houses, crafts, and SNOW ! ! We were there for about 2 hours watching all the kids play in the snow and have snowball fights. Gavin got his wish to see snow and had a great time. Both Danyelle and Gavin were soaked by the time we left. This "snow" is actually the leftover ice from our local skating rink. Its the best we can do here in Florida! Katelyn took a snowball to the face also when Danyelle missed me and got her poor sister.

Saturday morning Gavin had another Tball game. Once again I am a very proud mom! I think he did wonderful. He scored 3 runs and played catcher and short stop. He was especially happy to have Danyelle at the game watching him. From there I took the kids out to breakfast and after that we headed to the flea market. I love the flea market and haven't been in very long. This time I think Danyelle and Gavin had a better time than I did. They were both amazed at everything we saw. Gavin was impressed by all the toys and even puppies that were there, and Danyelle wondered why there were so many socks for sale!! That night we made homemade Christmas ornaments. Very easy recipe that I got from Three Peas in a Pod. But of course nothing I do is easy. I couldn't get the consistency right and Danyelle and Gavin had cinnamon and applesauce stuck everywhere. Danyelle also had a good time laughing at it all.

But the finished product turned out well, doncha think? Gavin did the gingerbread man, I did the snowman for Katelyn, and Danyelle did the Christmas tree.

Sunday we went to Grammies for lunch and our annual Christmas cookie frenzy. My mother-in-law make the BEST cookies I have ever tasted. A couple of years ago my husband decided that homemade Christmas cookies would make great gifts for all of his receivers at work. So now every year my mil doubles her cookie batches so he can take tins to work. So Sunday was our day to pack up all the tins with about 20 different kinds of cookies. Danyelle and Chris help with this every year. Gavin and Ryan are still too little to help with the tins and Gavin decided to cry about it for about an hour. A very long hour! After that all the kids got set up to put icing and sprinkles on some cut out cookies.



This involved all of four of them yelling at each other that each was doing it wrong, so and so is licking the knife, so and so is putting too much icing on, or so and so was putting too many sprinkles on. I thought I was going to loose my mind! But thru all of that the kids all had a wonderful and memorable time. I LOVE that we do this every year and these are going to make the greatest memories for my kids. All they will remember is the fun they had and not all the bickering. Maybe by next year I will have forgotten all of the fighting and crying too. Have a great week everyone !

Weekend Recap

This past weekend we did a whole bunch of nothing!! And it felt nice to not be on the go the whole weekend.
The weekend started early on Friday with Gavin waking up with a slight temperature and a sore throat. So I kept him home from school. Katelyn was not feeling too well either. She had a very bad runny stuffy nose and a sore throat.
Saturday morning Gavin was feeling better thankfully. His first Tball game was at 830. He did so well!! He got to bat 3 times and scored 2 runs. His first time up batting he hit the ball past 2nd base. Unfortunately, instead of running to first base he stood at home at watched how far his ball went. By the time he started running and made it to first base he was out. His 2nd and 3rd time batting went much better and he was able to make it all the way around. He played left field and short stop twice. His next game is this coming Saturday and hopefully their uniforms will be in by then.
We spent the rest of the weekend relaxing. Katelyn was cranky and irritable the whole time. Her sore throat made her miserable. Every time she swallowed she screamed. And her poor nose kept running nonstop which made it hard for her to breath. I spent most of the weekend wiping her nose. She was not pleasant to look at!! Poor kid.
As of today Gavin was back in school with just a slight cough. Katelyn is still the same. Which is probably why this post is going up so late. She is very clingy.

Weekend Recap

Our first Christmas-y weekend!! Friday night we all just kinda took it easy after Ken got home from picking up Danyelle.
Saturday morning we had Gavin's first Tball practice. It started at 10am, but Gavin was up bright and early at 7 and had his cleats on by 715. He wouldn't let 5 minutes go by without asking me if it was time to go yet. When we arrived at the field he got to meet his coach and his other teammates. They started practice with some warm ups, then catching the ball, and then batting. They all got to play different positions on the field while other kids were batting, and Gavin even got to play pitcher.

After Ken got home from work that afternoon we went up to Lowe's to get our Christmas tree. Gavin kept calling it going to the pumpkin patch. Why? I have no idea. But it sounded cute. Katelyn got pushed around in her stroller throughout the tent full of Christmas trees. She kept reaching out to touch them saying "OOOOOH OOOOOH OOOOH" Like she had never seen a tree before. We attached the tree to the roof of the car to go home. Gavin just could not get over the fact that our Christmas tree was on top of the car. He thought it was very exciting. But he spent the whole drive home yelling at me to go slow because he thought it would fall off.

Once the tree was up in the living room we walked up to the park for their annual lighting of the Christmas tree. This is a very big celebration. They have tons of booths set up with crafts for the kids, live music, dancers, and of course.....SANTA. We got in line for Santa where Gavin all of the sudden decided he was not going to talk to Santa, just sit on his lap with Katelyn. Ok, fine with me. Danyelle didn't sit with Santa, I guess she is too old now. So sad!! Katelyn took one look at Santa and started screaming like a banshee. But of course being the wonderful mommy that I am, I made her sit on his lap anyway. I wanted that picture!!! Crying kid or not! Gavin ended up changing his mind and stayed on Santa's lap long enough to tell him what he wanted for Christmas. We met up with Danyelle's friend Alexis and after getting popcorn and balloons made our way home.

Sunday morning Gavin sang in church. I love hearing him sing all the cute little Christmas songs! After church we got all of the Christmas decorations out of the attic and got busy!! Ken hung all the lights outside while Gavin, Danyelle, Katelyn, and I sat outside and watched. Gavin just thinks it is amazing that daddy goes on the roof. We spent the rest of the day inside decorating the house and putting the ornaments on the Christmas tree. Katelyn was fascinated by the lights on the tree and all of my singing decorations.
